Interferometric properties of pulsating C-rich AGB stars I. Intensity profiles and uniform disc diameters of dynamic model atmospheres

چکیده
Aims. We present the first theoretical study on center-to-limb variation (CLV) properties and relative radius interpretation for narrow and broad-band filters, on the basis of a set of dynamic model atmospheres of C-rich AGB stars. We computed visibility profiles and the equivalent uniform disc radii (UD-radii) in order to investigate the dependence of these quantities upon the wavelength and pulsation phase. Methods. After an accurate morphological analysis of the visibility and intensity profiles determined in narrow and broad-band filter, we fitted our visibility profiles with a UD function simulating the observational approach. UD-radii have been computed using three different fitting-methods to investigate the influence of the sampling of the visibility profile: single point, two points and least square method. Results. The intensity and visibility profiles of models characterized by mass loss show a behaviour very different from a UD. We found that UD-radii are wavelength dependent and this dependence is stronger if mass loss is present. Strong opacity contributions from C2H2 affect all radius measurements at 3 μm and in the N-band, resulting in higher values for the UD-radii. The predicted behaviour of UD-radii versus phase is complicated in the case of models with mass loss, while the radial changes are almost sinusoidal for the models without mass loss. Compared to the M-type stars, for the C-stars no windows for measuring the pure continuum are

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملComparison of dynamical model atmospheres of Mira variables with mid-infrared interferometric and spectroscopic observations
We present a comparison of dynamical model atmospheres with mid-infrared (∼11 μm) interferometric and spectroscopic observations of the Mira variable o Cet. The dynamical model atmospheres of Mira variables pulsating in the fundamental mode can fairly explain, without assuming ad-hoc components, the seemingly contradictory mid-infrared spectroscopic and interferometric observations of o Cet: th...
متن کاملDisk-like Structure in the Semi-regular Pulsating Star, X Her
The author reports a result of an interferometric observation of the semiragular pulsating star with an unusual narrow molecular line profile, X Her, in the CO J = 1–0 line with the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland array. In the CO spectrum, a double-component profile (including narrow and broad components) is seen as reported by previous observations. The narrow component consists of two spiky peaks...
متن کاملPulsating Stellar Atmospheres
We review the basic concepts, present state of theoretical models, and the future prospects for theory and observations of pulsating stellar atmospheres. Our emphasis is on radially pulsating cool stars, which dynamic atmospheres provide a general example for the differences with standard static model atmospheres.
متن کاملDetermining Parameters of Cool Giant Stars by Modeling Spectrophotometric and Interferometric Observations Using the SAtlas Program (Research Note)
Context. Optical interferometry is a powerful tool for observing the intensity structure and angular diameter of stars. When combined with spectroscopy and/or spectrophotometry, interferometry provides a powerful constraint for model stellar atmospheres. Aims. The purpose of this work is to test the robustness of the spherically symmetric version of the Atlas stellar atmosphere program, SAtlas,...
